Trouble viewing certain websites on Nexicom Turbo DSL using Windows XP, MAC OS X, or a DSL router?
You may need to change your MTU setting.

Please note this problem does not affect NRTC Turbo DSL customers using Enternet 300 on Windows 95/98/ME/2000 and MAC OS 9X.

Default MTU settings in Windows XP, MAC OS X, or on DSL routers may result in degraded internet service causing severe lags in time to load some web pages. Since many websites continue to load quickly, MTU problems often go unreported.

MTU stands for Maximum Transmission Unit and, in basic terms, it defines the maximum size of a packet that can be transferred in one frame over a network.

For assistance in determining whether an MTU change may be required on your system, please contact our Help Desk at 1-877-300-7873.

For standalone Windows XP computers:

The Windows XP MTU registry fix may be used only on Windows XP computers that experience long delays when loading certain web pages.

This registry fix will optimize the MTU setting in Windows XP for NRTC's DSL service. Simply save the MTU fix to your desktop, right-click on it and select Merge ..., then follow the instructions to merge the fix with your registry. It is always a good idea to backup your registry before running the fix so you may be able to recover if something goes wrong.

Disclaimer: Modifying the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. We cannot guarantee that problems resulting from modifications to the registry can be solved. Use the file provided at your own risk.

For DSL routers:
