Timetable for Moving
The following timetable is a useful guide to assist you in your relocation experience.
6 weeks
set approximate date for move tour house and decide what to transport, what to sell or give away and what to throw away plan menus to use stocks of preserved and frozen food. plan visits with friends and relations contact movers to arrange for visual estimates of you home arrange for transfer or resign club memberships start a file for all correspondence related to the move and keep it with you
4 weeks
notify you post office and send change of address cards arrange to have utilities disconcerted contact the utilities at destination to arrange for connection transfer bank accounts to a bank near your new home have a garage sale transfer insurance policies
2 weeks
have rugs and draperies cleaned and leave rugs wrapped prepare a floor plan of your new home with room assignments if you are driving, prepare your car for an extended trip arrange for hotels en route arrange for child care during packing and loading days
1 week
drain fuel from lawnmower and other machinery separate items for the trip and pack in a separate area organized travel documents and valuable that will be traveling with you collect items loaned to others and return borrowed items and library books ask veterinarian about traveling with pets
1 day
dispose of garbage and wash and put away dishes pack suitcases and stare away from movers relax
