and attractions, the friendly people of Melville invite you to join them for
Sunday worship whenever you can.
Our welcoming, historic Zion

also invite you to join them for worship on Sunday mornings.
You’ll
be warmly welcomed into a church that seeks to remain viable and vital. Just
check out the annual happenings on our website and you’ll see we are committed
to being servants of Christ, who have a lot of fun along the way!
We
strive to make our community of faith one where everyone has a role to play and
each one is valued and appreciated. So we extend an invitation to you to join
us in our adventure of faith, where God calls us to be friends who journey
together along the road to true discipleship.
Everyone

us and enjoy an uplifting Christian message, a nurturing environment, and
beautiful music.

Rev. Ingrid
Condie-Bennett

I welcome you to our Bonnechere Pastoral
Charge website. Please feel free to browse around and familiarize yourself with
the programs we have available.
Here at Melville and Zion
United Churches, we have come to believe that without joy in life, there is no
life, so we laugh together on an almost daily basis. We are small but ever
growing churches who, like most modern Christians, are searching for ways to
make our lives of faith relevant and purposeful. To that end, I try to make the
service and message, which are based on the three year cycle Revised Common
Lectionary, ones that relate to current events and, to quote a colleague,
"preach with the Bible in one hand and a newspaper in the other."
Many people contribute to
make our worship successful: lay readers, talented choirs and cheerful ushers
and greeters. We invite you to join us to share in God’s service.
Rev. Ingrid Condie-Bennett
Zion & Melville United Church Sunday
Schools eagerly welcome new students and visitors. We attend church for
about 10 minutes, staying to hear the minister’s children’s story, before
leaving for the Sunday School rooms. Nursery supervision is available on
request.
Our Sunday Schools are
currently using a curriculum called Whole People of God for small Sunday
Schools. The curriculum follows the United Church Lectionary.
Lessons in Sunday School will be on the same topic as the Sermon and Bible
Readings in church that day.
Regular Events Include:
Last Sunday in June -- Sunday School
and Congregational BBQ held on the Manse lawn.
July & August -- There is no Sunday
school, however a nursery is available on request.
Second Sunday in September -- Start
of Sunday School celebration - Bring a friend and come to our first day of Sunday
school.
Second Sunday in December -- Sunday School
Play/Presentation - White Gift Sunday.
Many other special projects
and activities and scheduled throughout the year. Melville Sunday School has recently completed a child’s butterfly
quilt to donate to a child in need and Zion Sunday School put on a very
entertaining Mystery Luncheon last season - come on out and join the fun.

Melville United
Church Choir is an enthusiastic, fun-loving, group of people who just love to
sing. They are guided by choir director and organist Kevin
Griffith. New members are always welcome. Reading music is
not a necessity.
Choir practice
is held Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. with a quick warm-up before church
Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The choir
enjoys singing challenging pieces in 4 part harmony. They frequently sing
for special events and services in churches throughout the area.
Zion United
Church Choir provide a wonderful, uplifting selection of music on Sunday
mornings, especially enjoying many of the old favorites. The Zion choir always welcome new singers
and musicians. They are lead by
organist Lois Gilchrist.
Choir practice
is held Sunday mornings about 20 minutes before church.
Melville Crafters are a group of
church ladies who like to get together and enjoy fellowship. They meet
on the Second Tuesday of each month at 5:30 to enjoy a potluck supper and
evening of crafts. New members are always welcome.
After supper they
have a lot of fun working on a variety of crafts in preparation for the
Christmas Craft Sale. Sometimes they all join together and learn a new
craft, but members are welcome to bring their own crafts along to work on if
they prefer. They have enjoyed a wide variety of crafts including;
chocolate making, knitting, candle making, sewing, jewellery making, painting,
podging, and beading just to name a few. Our newest endeavour is the
making of a quilt for our latest fundraising raffle.
Zion Crafters also enjoy
getting together and expressing their artistic and crafty talents. Although they do not meet weekly, they do
get together quite often to create something special. They have especially enjoyed creating beautiful flower
arrangements and centrepieces for special seasons throughout the year. Watch our weekly church bulletins to find
out when Zion will be holding their next craft day.
