The History of
St. Thomas the Apostle School

St. Thomas the Apostle School opened its doors to one hundred and thirty-five pupils on October 26, 1959, with a staff of 4. Since its opening, the school has continued to expand with several additions and a large influx of pupils. In 1965, the addition of an office area and general purpose room allowed for indoor sports programs. Shortly thereafter, St.Thomas the Apostle School was designated as the senior elementary school for separate school students in Renfrew and by 1968 a large three-story addition was constructed with special facilities for senior elementary students.

In the school year 1996-97, the bottom floor of the school underwent major reconstruction. It now houses a computer lab for our students and a huge high-tech facility for St. Joseph's Catholic High School.

Our first School Council was formed in September, 1996.

Many of our students are bussed in from the surrounding areas of Mount St.Patrick, Dacre, Hurd's lake, Haley Station and Goshen. English is our predominant language.

We have a close relationship with the three parishes that our students belong to : St.Francis Xavier, Our lady of Fatima, and St.Patrick's in Mount St.Patrick.
